St George’s Day is a particularly special day for members of the Scout Association. St George is the Patron Saint of scouting and each year we remember him as all members renew their promise at a church service on the closest Sunday to the 23rd April. This year the parade took place in Norwich City Centre on Sunday 27th April, when youth and adult members from all sections formed up in front of The Forum before parading to Chapelfield Methodist Church.
Each year the section leaders nominate a charity to whom the collection will be donated and this year the chosen charity was Nelson’s Journey, a charity dedicated to supporting bereaved children and young people throughout Norfolk.
A total of £335.50 was collected at the church and a cheque was recently presented to Sophie Berry, Funding and Marketing Manager at Nelson’s Journey. Sophie spoke to the leaders about what the charity does and explained the support that it provides to young people in the event of a family bereavement.
Northern Norwich Deputy District Commissioner Chris Reynolds said “Northern Norwich Scouts are delighted to be able to support such a worthy local charity. Helping other people is part of the promise which all our members make at their investiture and a children’s charity is particularly relevant to a youth based movement.”
