Northern Norwich District held their annual St George’s Day parade and service in Norwich City Centre on Sunday 24th April 2016.
Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Network Scouts and adult leaders gathered together and paraded onto The Forum Plaza. There they were introduced to the Lord Mayor, Councillor Brenda Arthur, The Sheriff of Norwich, Mrs Beryl Blower and Police Inspector Chris Claydon from Norwich East Policing Command who was representing the Chief Constable of Norfolk.
The guests spent some time talking to the young people and their leaders before The Lord Mayor spoke about the opportunities which scouting offered and the values it instilled in those involved.
The assembled members then left the Plaza to parade their colours as they walked to Chapelfield Road Methodist Church where they renewed their scouting promises.
During the service, conducted by the Reverend Catherine Hutton, a charity collection took place with the proceeds being split equally between Cardiac Risk in the Young and ASD Helping Hands.
Afterwards Lisa Wright, District Commissioner said, “It was such an honour and pleasure to join together as a District in celebration of St George our Patron Saint. I think we just about got away with it weather-wise and our Leaders and young people proved to be an absolute credit to Scouting. My sincere thanks to our ‘team’ who made this happen and the support of Norfolk Wherry Brass”.
