Duke of Edinburgh Awards Presentation

It was great this afternoon to see the young people from across the County at the Alec Bussey Centre to receive recognition for their achievements under the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme.

Two members of a team receiving their Bronze Award kicked off the afternoon event with a presentation on their experiences.

Next it was the turn for those receiving their Silver Award to take centre stage.  Unfortunately, there was no presentation from a team for this award.  However, one of our own – Alex Bretton, an Explorer from HAndS, was presented with his certificate acknowledging completion of his Silver Award earlier in the year.  He has been progressing with his Gold Award, embarking upon the final assessment expedition only to have one of his team of four come down with sickness on the first night. He and his team hope to complete their final expedition before their studies take them away to University etc.

A very personal presentation from an Explorer proved that with team work and determination you really can achieve anything – her presentation of her Duke of Edinburgh experience was inspiring.

The final part of the afternoon included a presentation from a team who had completed their Gold Award expedition in August; a team of five, two of whom had fully completed their Award and the remaining three with some ‘finishing off’ to do.

These two plus Will Bretton, a member of Mongoose Network and now an Assistant Beaver Leader at 1st Horsford & St Faiths Scout Group were then presented with their Gold Awards.

Congratulations to ‘the Brettons’ – Alex and Will.  It was a real pleasure to see your hard work rewarded this afternoon.
