Explorers attend Poacher International Scout Jamboree

“Poacher” is Lincoln’s International Jamboree which August 2017 was held at the Lincolnshire Showground. The Jamboree played host to over 5,550 participants, six of whom came from HAndS ESU. Ryan, David, Robbie, Alex, Izzy and Georgie took on a week of activities ranging from gliding to wheelchair basketball to shaving Alex’s legs with “duct tape”! They also completed the Poacher Challenge.

Poacher Challenge
This was one of the activities available to participants, leaders and staff. It was a series of tasks which had to be completed and signed off. These included meeting the “Chiefs” of each Sub Camp, swapping badges or contributing to the peace wall. All six of the Explorers and the three leaders from HAndS completed their Poacher Challenge and earned limited edition badges.

Volleyball competition
It wasn’t all cooking and free time for the HAndS leaders, as they organised a volleyball competition for their Sub Camp – Movie Legends. A total of 32 teams took part and the tournament was a success. The HAndS team played really well but unfortunately were knocked out in the semi-finals by 1st Shiremoor. The final drew lots of attention as the two teams, 1st Shiremoor and 2nd Lincoln paraded into the game court to cheering, chanting, music and waving pom-poms made from newspaper. The final round was the best out of three; 1st Shiremoor won the first two games and were declared the winner.

The Explorers wore pink tutus during the week and soon became known and recognised for it across the Jamboree.
